Intro Video:
I have always known how to give a proper introduction, but when it came to putting it online it was a different story. Thinking about how to word my introduction was a bit of a struggle for me, but once it started coming to me I had no problem. After writing the introduction I then had to record an introduction video to attach to the introduction paragraph and that's where the real problem came along. I had no problem recording the video from my phone, in fact, recording from my phone was the easiest part. What really gave me problems was trying to attach the video to my blog introduction. I tried connecting my phone directly to the computer by USB and also tried emailing it, but neither of those options worked. Finally, I recorded it directly onto my computer from my webcam and it uploaded to my blog immediately. I could integrate this into my future teaching by letting children make introduction videos and then I can show them at the end of the year for the children to see their progress.

Concept Map
Making a concept map online was a different type of experience for me. I had to familiarize myself with the website we were using for the map and discover how it worked for me and what I was doing. I learned a lot from this site and made mistakes during it that I had to correct on my own. For example, when I accidentally erased all my work and had to figure out how to get it back and thankfully I did. I had to learn how to navigate my way around the site better and learned the ins and outs of how it works correctly. there are so many ways to integrate the concept maps into a lesson. Teachers can use maps to teach a lesson or can use it as a study tool for the children. Teachers can also use this concept map for projects and have them use it as a tool for learning or as a demonstration.

Voki
When I used Voki to make a video, I learned about a new type of technology that I have never used before. I learned how I can use this for an automated voice for my classroom or for a website. I honestly did not encounter any technical problems with this assignment other than trying to find the right look for my person to go along with my voice. I just kept searching until I found exactly what I wanted. I could use a Voki in my classroom for children to explore how technology can be used to announce certain things or to tell things you may not want to say yourself.

Xtranormal
Xtranormal was a good opportunity for me to see how to make videos. This can be used to show a conversation between people and could be very informative. A teacher could use this in the classroom on the first day when introducing the rules. The teacher has endless possibilities that are able to show what to do as well as what not to do. I encountered quite a few problems when learning how to use xtranormal. For example, the hand gestures that would work just right with what was being said at that certain time. The only way I was finally able to get it right was because I just keep having to preview the video after every time I would edit it. This could be very time consuming but I finally ended up getting it the way I wanted.

Just like the Voki assignment, this assignment gives you a chance to get creative and show so many more things in a different way than Voki. Choosing a person, as well as a voice, and the type of gestures they want to make leaves for a lot of student learning.
Turnitin Paper
During the turnitin assignment, I learned a lot about what it is like to be a teacher when you are evaluating student papers. By turning in a copy of the paper that was directly copied, it gave you an idea of how the software graded the paper we turned in and showed you just how much was copied from the other resources. This assignment also showed you how to reword the paper to be sure you were under the required amount that was supposed to be plagiarized. The problems I encountered while doing this paper was the second part that came along with reword and making it flow. It was not easy to make something flow that you really had no clue about and had to read up on, which was a little bit time consuming. I can integrate this into my classroom by using this for when I grade papers to ensure that the children do not cheat and copy someone else's work without properly citing it like they should.

TED Videos
I learned a lot when watching the TED videos because there was so much good information given in these videos to learn from. These videos give teachers, as well as students, a real insight into real world issues that need to be seen. The only problems I encountered while watching these videos was that my connection on my computer was a little slow and it would stop and go during watching. I solved this problem by pausing the video to let it load more and then watching it once it was fully loaded and it ended up saving me a significant amount of time. I can integrate videos into my lesson or classroom because it is important for children to watch things such as this and learn about the issues of today and how we can fix them as well.

I. Leaf
A leaf is made of many layers that are
sandwiched between two layers of tough skin cells (called the epidermis). The
epidermis also secretes a waxy substance called the cuticle. These layers
protect the leaf from insects, bacteria, and other pests. The leaves are the
powerhouses of the plants. Leaves are the major site of production of food and
keep the plant alive. The leaves are what help to keep the photosynthesis
process going.

Technology is gaining such a strong role in the classrooms. Teachers are even beginning to let students use their cell phones and ipads in the classroom to complete or assist with certain assignments. Many students, in fact, work better with such assistance because it helps them to focus more with something they are interested in. More students have access to such technologies in the schools rather than at home so the children need to get that experience somewhere if they are not able to get it at home.

It seems to hit children at a younger age than ever now because even my 12 year old niece has come to me with issues she has come across on social media sites. We need to help our children understand that these types of things are not acceptable in the real world or online either. This website shows you first hand what the inside of a factory looks like and what is required of you if you were to work there also. This virtual field trip shows videos of the raw ingredients, Cocoa bean processing, milling and pressing, mixing the ingredients, refining and making the actually products. I never realized that there was so much that went into just making a simple piece of chocolate until now. I find that this website could be very informative for children and also interesting. Especially if the teacher was to give out a little piece of chocolate at the end to the students to make it all the more enjoyable.

Teens, Social Media and Privacy

After reading this article about social media, it made me realize just how much the importance of social media in people's lives has jumped. I know when I was younger the least of my concerns was getting on the computer for a social network. I only learned of them from hearing about others talking about it at school and decided I had to have one. This article shows just how much of a drastic change social media has made in such a short amount of time. Every network has almost doubled in a few short years. It is telling of how more and more people are sharing more of their private life on their networks and telling about themselves more than they did in the past. I know I realize now more about what I post than I use to in the past. I take into consideration that when I am becoming a teacher that my possible employers will research me online to see what I have available for the world to see. Although the social media world is evolving more, I think people realizing what you post can come back to haunt you is something important to think about in life. I think just because it is evolving so quickly and people are putting so much about themselves out there that we should be sure to educate the upcoming generations about all of this.

The older we get the less we seem to be in what's "new" to the younger generation and more and more children are learning how to work technology at younger ages. It is important for adults to keep up with technology because a lot of the time it can benefit you when you have to teach your children or if you are a teacher yourself and are able to use it in the classroom. As I was reading the article attached about bitcoins, there were many good ideas throughout this article. For example it stated in the middle of the article that we need to minimize the disadvantages and optimize the advantages that each new technology presents. This can be true in so many ways. I've heard a lot of the older generation preach about how you need to stick to the old way things were done, but when you think about it there are always bigger and better things out there for people to use. Introduction with video
My name is Sarah Kellar and I am from Picayune, Mississippi. I work part time for the summer two days a week at a daycare and have been there for about three years now. I currently have 12 hours left for my dual degree and will be going into my senior block in the fall. I plan to student teach around the Picayune area in January and will graduate in May 2014. I would prefer to teach third or fourth grade, but I will take what I can get at this point.
